The Arcadian Mixed Use Development

EP Engineering provided full engineering services for Hudson Companies at The Arcadian, a transformative mixed-use development located at 975 Nostrand Avenue in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn. The project consists of two 9-story residential towers constructed over a shared podium, containing 328 residential units, significant ground-floor retail spaces, and a full-service NYC FRESH supermarket. The development integrates complex urban infrastructure coordination with high-performance MEP systems designed to support long-term operational efficiency and tenant flexibility, and was designed to meet LEED for Homes and ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction program requirements.

The MEP systems included high-efficiency condensing domestic hot water heater plants serving each tower, high-efficiency variable refrigerant volume (VRV) heat pump and heat recovery systems providing heating and cooling throughout the development, and energy recovery ventilation (ERV) systems serving base building areas, residential amenities, and common spaces. Additional systems included new electrical service and distribution, fire protection and standpipe systems, fire alarm systems, dedicated ventilation provisions for retail and supermarket spaces, and a CO/NO-controlled parking garage exhaust system utilizing jet vent fans. Rooftop mechanical equipment was coordinated with zoning-compliant screening and integrated with rooftop amenity areas.
