Everlane Williamsburg

Everlane, the San Francisco-based clothing retailer known for their ethical factories and transparent pricing, recently opened their largest store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. EP Engineering designed the location’s MEP systems in close collaboration with the renowned architectural firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson. EP worked with BCJ, Shawmut Design and Construction, and building ownership to facilitate BCJ’s ambitious design for the space, including 20-foot ceilings, full glass storefront, and extensive lighting design. EP provided full mechanical, electrical, plumbing, sprinkler and fire alarm services to ensure that both code and function could be met without compromising the clean, minimalist, and open design of the space.

Challenges:

  • Coordination of incoming utility upgrades while maintaining the storefront design
  • Extensive coordination with architectural and structural for new storefront and mezzanine
  • Compliance of lighting design with NYC Energy Conservation Code requirements

Achievements:

  • Ductwork, sanitary lines and electrical conduits were all coordinated to ensure that the desired ceiling heights were maintained.
  • Concealed mechanical systems in complex ceiling systems while not sacrificing comfort in 20-foot high space
  • Rerouting of existing building systems to back of house locations
