The Carlyle Hotel Hotel and Residential Landmark

The Carlyle Hotel, a combination luxury and residential building, is a historic New York City landmark located on Madison Avenue. Since its inception in 1930, the art deco building, which overlooks Central Park, has housed leaders in world affairs, business and society. Our team completed a gut renovation of an existing private suite on the 20th floor.

Engineering challenges

The client wanted central air conditioning, but the landmark building did not allow installation of outdoor condensing units, and the space’s interior had no drop ceiling.

Engineering outcomes

We created three air conditioning zones with split systems by utilizing closet space for air handlers and existing air conditioning openings in the walls for mounted condensing units. Sheet metal coordination was extensive; after weeks on site with the contractors, ductwork was meticulously installed in architectural soffits without conflicts.
