Stress is your body’s way of protecting you when you feel any kind of demand or threat. When this response is working properly, it’s meant to help keep you calm and focused. We all live busy lives and have a number of factors that can cause us to feel stressed. For instance, our demanding schedules can make us feel overwhelmed and anxious. Stress can affect the body in many ways when not handled properly. This can range from headaches, weight gain, fatigue and mood swings, to even more serious health issues if the stress becomes chronic.
So what’s the best way to handle stress? Marissa McFarland, from Marissa’s Well-Being and Health, came by our office to give us some tips and advice! One thing we learned was how breathing techniques can have a great impact on reducing stress and anxiety. These breathing exercises send a message to the brain to relax and remain calm. Breathing techniques can be done anywhere and is an easy way to help refocus your body. Meditation is another excellent way to help reduce stress and anxiety, especially when performed daily. Lastly, creating boundaries in your life can also make an impact. This means avoiding taking on too many tasks at once and saying no to things that you’re uncomfortable with. Participating in activities and events that you enjoy, can not only reduce stress but also improve your overall health.
We thank Marissa for stopping by our office and teaching us these helpful techniques for handling stress!
