On June 10, 2023 NYC enacted Local Law 77 of 2023 which revises the 2022 versions of the Building, Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas Codes. Keen eyed readers may have already noticed the following note at the top of the NYC DOB’s online versions of the building code:
Throughout each chapter, whenever you see the symbol, it means that something in that section has been revised.
The vast majority of these changes were done to fix typos or grammatical errors in the code, for example “fired rated” became “fire-rated” in the following section.
There are some substantive changes buried in the hundreds for minor ones. Appendix Q which modifies section 7.9.1 of NFPA 14 in the following way:
This finally provided some clarity to a long standing vagueness around the maximum design pressure limitations of standpipes in New York City.
